PRF FOR HAIR LOSS
1. Before Treatment
• Consultation:
o A provider evaluates your hair loss, discusses expectations, and determines
if you're a good candidate.
o PRF works best for early-stage hair thinning or androgenic alopecia
(pattern baldness).
• Preparation:
o Avoid blood-thinning medications, alcohol, and smoking for at least 3–7 days
before the procedure, as these can affect platelet quality.
o Stay well-hydrated, and eat a healthy meal before the procedure to avoid
feeling lightheaded.
• Blood Draw:
o Your blood is drawn, usually from the arm, to prepare the PRF
solution.
2. During Treatment
• Blood Processing:
o Your blood is spun in a centrifuge to separate its components.
A plasma layer rich in platelets and growth factors is isolated.
• Scalp Treatment:
o The PRF is injected into areas of the scalp with thinning hair using
small, fine needles.
o The process stimulates hair follicles by delivering growth factors that
promote healing, reduce inflammation, and encourage new hair growth.
• Discomfort: Mild discomfort during injections is common, but numbing cream or cold air can help minimize pain.
• Time:
o The entire session typically lasts 45–60 minutes.
3. After Treatment
• Immediate Post-Care:
o Avoid washing your hair for 24–48 hours.
o No heavy sweating, direct sun exposure, or swimming for 2–3 days.
• Mild Side Effects:
o Temporary redness, soreness, bruising, or swelling at the injection sites is
normal and usually subsides within 1–2 days.
• Hair Growth Timeline:
o Weeks 1–3: Minimal noticeable changes as the growth factors begin
working.
o Months 2–3: Reduced hair shedding, early signs of increased hair thickness
and density.
o Months 4–6: Visible hair regrowth and improved scalp coverage.
• Maintenance:
o Initial treatment includes 3–4 sessions spaced 4–6 weeks apart.
o Maintenance sessions every 6–12 months are often recommended to
sustain results.
