DERMAL FILLER
1. Before Treatment
Preparation helps ensure a smoother procedure and minimizes risks:
• Consultation:
o Meet with a qualified provider to discuss your aesthetic goals, medical
history, and expectations.
o Your provider will assess your skin, facial structure, and recommend the
appropriate type of filler.
• Pre-Treatment Guidelines:
o Avoid blood thinners (like aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil, or vitamin E) for 5-7
days to minimize bruising. Always consult your physician first.
o Avoid alcohol for at least 24-48 hours before the procedure.
o Stay hydrated and follow a healthy, balanced diet.
o Plan ahead: Schedule the appointment at least 1-2 weeks before major
events in case of minor bruising or swelling.
o Communicate concerns: Let your provider know about allergies, past
reactions, or if you’re pregnant or breastfeeding.
2. During Treatment
The treatment is quick and minimally invasive:
• Preparation:
o The treatment area will be cleansed, and a topical numbing cream may be
applied to enhance comfort.
• Injection Process:
o Your provider will use a fine needle or cannula to inject the filler precisely
into the targeted areas (e.g., lips, cheeks, nasolabial folds).
o The process typically takes 15-45 minutes, depending on the number of
areas treated.
o Minor pressure, stinging, or pinching sensations may occur but are generally
well tolerated.
• Immediate Results:
o You’ll notice initial volume and enhancement right after treatment. However,
minor swelling might obscure the final result for a day or two.
3. After Treatment
Post-treatment care is essential to optimize results and recovery:
• Immediate Aftercare:
o Avoid touching the area for at least 6 hours.
o Skip makeup for 24 hours to reduce infection risks.
o Avoid strenuous exercise, heat exposure, and alcohol for 24-48 hours to
prevent swelling.
o Use a cold compress to reduce swelling or bruising, if needed.
• What to Expect:
o Some mild redness, swelling, bruising, or tenderness may occur and
typically resolves within a few days.
o Results become more apparent as swelling subsides, usually within 1-2
weeks.
• Long-Term Care:
o Stay hydrated to maintain filler longevity.
o Use sunscreen daily to protect the skin and filler.
o Follow up with your provider in 2 weeks for any adjustments or touch-ups.
o Results typically last 6-18 months, depending on the type of filler and
metabolism.
