PRP/PRF FOR SKIN
1. Before Treatment
• Consultation:
o A detailed discussion about your skin concerns, medical history, and
expectations.
o Your provider will determine if PRP or PRF is suitable for you.
• Preparation:
o Avoid blood-thinning medications (e.g., aspirin, ibuprofen, vitamin E, fish oil)
for 5-7 days.
o Stay well-hydrated and eat a nutritious meal before your appointment.
o Avoid alcohol and smoking for at least 48 hours to optimize platelet quality.
o Skin Prep: Stop using retinoids, exfoliants, and other harsh skin treatments
3-5 days before treatment.
2. During Treatment
• Blood Draw:
o A small amount of blood (10-20 ml) is drawn from your arm, similar to a
routine blood test.
• Centrifugation:
o The blood is spun in a centrifuge to separate the plasma:
â–ª PRP: Contains concentrated platelets and growth factors.
â–ª PRF: A slower spin results in a fibrin matrix, with platelets, growth
factors, and white blood cells for a more extended release.
• Application of PRP/PRF:
o Microneedling (optional): A device with fine needles creates micro-
channels in the skin for better absorption.
o Injection: PRP/PRF is injected into target areas (face, neck, or under-eyes) to
promote collagen production and tissue repair.
o Topical Application: PRP/PRF can also be applied directly for a glowing
effect.
• Duration:
o The procedure takes 30–60 minutes, depending on the areas treated.
3. After Treatment
• Immediate Post-Care:
o Expect redness, mild swelling, and slight tenderness, similar to a sunburn,
for 24-48 hours.
o Avoid touching or washing the treated area for the first 4 hours.
o Apply only gentle skincare products (e.g., hyaluronic acid or medical-grade
moisturizers).
• Key Post-Treatment Tips:
o Avoid sun exposure for 3-7 days and use broad-spectrum sunscreen.
o Skip makeup for 24-48 hours to prevent irritation.
o Avoid intense workouts, saunas, and swimming for 48 hours.
o Avoid irritants such as retinoids, exfoliants and salicylic acid for 5-7 days to
allow skin recovery.
• Results:
o Initial Improvements: Visible skin glow and hydration within 1 week.
o Long-Term Benefits: Collagen production increases over 4–6 weeks,
improving skin texture, fine lines, and overall radiance.
o PRF Advantage: Slower release of growth factors leads to longer-lasting
results.
• Follow-Up:
o A series of 3–4 treatments spaced 4–6 weeks apart is often recommended
for optimal results.
o Maintenance sessions every 6–12 months are often recommended to
sustain results.
