MICRONEEDLING
1. Before Treatment
• Consultation: Meet the qualified provider to discuss your skin concerns and goals
to determine if microneedling is suitable.
• Preparation:
o Avoid applying skin treatments such as retinoids, exfoliants, glycolic acid,
salicylic acid for 3-5 days prior to treatment.
o Stop sun exposure and tanning to prevent skin irritation.
o Avoid blood-thinning medications (like aspirin, NSAIDs, fish oil, vitamin E) for
24-48 hours to minimize bruising.
o Arrive with clean, makeup-free skin on the day of treatment.
• Numbing: A topical numbing cream is applied to the treatment area about 30-45
minutes before the session to minimize discomfort.
2. During Treatment
• Procedure:
o A microneedling device (pen or roller with tiny, sterile needles) is moved over
the skin, creating controlled micro-injuries.
o The process stimulates the skin’s natural healing response, boosting
collagen and elastin production.
o Depth and pressure of the needles vary based on skin concerns (e.g.,
superficial for fine lines, deeper for scars).
• Duration:
o The procedure typically takes 30-60 minutes, depending on the treatment
area.
• Sensation:
o You may feel light pressure, tingling, or mild discomfort, but numbing helps
reduce this.
3. After Treatment
• Immediately After:
o Skin may appear red (similar to a sunburn) and feel warm, tight, or slightly
swollen.
o Minor pinpoint bleeding may occur, but this resolves quickly.
• First 24-48 Hours:
o Avoid touching the skin to reduce infection risk.
o Refrain from applying makeup, sweating, or sun exposure.
o Use gentle, hydrating skincare (like hyaluronic acid or a post-treatment
serum).
• Aftercare Instructions:
o Moisturize: Apply a gentle, non-comedogenic moisturizer to soothe the skin.
o Sun Protection: Use a broad-spectrum SPF 30+ daily as the skin will be
more sensitive.
o Avoid Irritants: Stay away from exfoliants, retinoids, glycolic acid, salycilic
aicd for 5-7 days.
o Hydrate: Drink plenty of water to aid skin healing.
• Healing Timeline:
o Redness fades in 1-3 days, and skin texture begins improving within a week.
o Collagen production continues for up to 4-6 weeks, with optimal results
seen over time.
• Follow-Up: Depending on the skin concern, multiple sessions (usually 3-4, spaced
4-6 weeks apart) are recommended for best results.
